Mrs. Hope Gamboa

Professional Biography

As an undergraduate at Boston University, I studied sociology with a minor in African American studies. My sociology coursework included studies in the American family, education, corporations, Soviet society and crime and delinquency. As a graduate student at Northeastern University, I decided to focus on history with a certification in public history. My public history studies included historical methodology, research and design, historical administration, and historical filmmaking.

My education work history includes New Bedford Christian Academy where I taught for one year in the elementary and high school division. I have taught American history, world history and geography, American government and economics at Covenant Christian Ministries Academy since 1999. I have also coached several students in the National History Day competition to create projects on historical topics for regional, state and national competition. For four years, I have coached the elementary and middle school geography bee team and have participated in the NBAF and Sankofa African-American History Bowl. I have also outlined the history, Latin and Bible curriculum for CCMA.

The study of history also demonstrates that each individual life can make a difference. History enables us to examine our past so that we may better understand the present. As the Bible says, we should teach these things to our children so that we do not forget and create memorials for them. I believe that history helps us to understand our connection to the past and can be empowering to our young people to remember and appreciate the lives and events that have come before us.
